Some trails become cross-country skiing routes December through March or April.īack-country camping, picnicking, boating, fishing, swimming and scuba diving are among other activities available. One of the popular routes is the 9-kilometre (5.5-mi.) Coastal Trail. Trails provide more than 100 kilometres (62 mi.) for hiking. in the north end of the park reaches the Eastport Peninsula.
Roads within the park are open all year but may not be plowed in the winter months. Brochure boxes and the park administration building at Newman Sound provide information October through May. 10-4, mid-May to late June and early Sept.-early Oct. The visitor center is open daily 10-6, late June-early Sept. Information kiosks are at the campgrounds at Malady Head and Newman Sound.
The visitor center, which features a marine interpretation center with a touch tank, is at Salton’s Brook in the middle of the park. General InformationTerra Nova National Park is open all year. Permanent feathered residents include willow ptarmigan, boreal and black-capped chickadees, bald eagles, ospreys and Canada jays. Such migrating birds as the Arctic tern can be sighted off the coast during the spring and fall. Moose, black bears, red foxes, beavers, lynx and various smaller species inhabit the area, which serves as a wildlife refuge. Saltwater fishing offers cod, mackerel and herring. Working with an intimate knowledge of Robinson’s design philosophy, the second nine was integrated with the original holes to take full advantage of the spectacular scenery along Clode Sound. In 1989 Carrick Design were retained to expand the course to 18 holes. The original nine-hole course, designed by Robbie Robinson, opened officially in August 1981, as a public golf course designed to increase visitation to the Terra Nova National Park.
